Upgrades to Gosling Gardens Park
Gosling Gardens Park to Get Upgraded Sports Field and Ice Rink.
At the request of the Clairfields Neighbourhood Group, the City is upgrading Gosling Gardens Park later this summer.
The existing field at the rear of the park is sloped, making informal play difficult for small children. To recitfy this issue, the City plans to bring in clean fill and top soil to re-grade the field and seed/sod the area. The City also plans to install a water vault and light post to accomodate an ice rink on the rear field as approved in the Master Plan for the park.
This work will be quite extensive and will require a large portion of the park to be closed. To minimize the disruption the work is scheduled for mid-August; the park will be available for most of the summer. The timing also allows seeding/sodding to occur in September when more rain and cooler temperatures will be ideal for seed germination. The ice rink will be operational in the winter of 2010 to allow seed and sod to take root.
The City plans to keep the play equipment and trail open during construction, but there may be days when these park assets may be closed for safety.
In mid-August the city will be leveling the playing field area located adjacent to the playground equipment. Currently this area is quite sloped which makes informal play difficult. The city will also be installing a water vault and light post to accomodate an ice rink.
